Zara Chen

Project Lead, Smart Prosthetics

When I started at Curilex in early 2024, I never imagined my final project would help someone walk again. Our smart prosthetic leg uses machine learning to adapt to different walking surfaces and user patterns. Seeing Marcus, our test volunteer, navigate stairs confidently for the first time in three years – that's when I knew this wasn't just coursework anymore.

Project Impact

Zara's adaptive prosthetic system is now being refined through a partnership with Bergen Medical Center. The prototype has helped four patients regain mobility confidence, with two patents filed for the adaptive learning algorithms developed during the project. Manufacturing discussions are scheduled for late 2025.
